Best and worst: Moms and daughters on screen
HBO's film "Grey Gardens" is inspired by the 1975 documentary about "Big Edie" and "Little Edie" Beale, an aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis who were discovered living in a decrepit mansion in East Hampton, N.Y. It's a sad story, both for the surroundings they live in and for the very fraught relationship between mother and daughter, both of whom are living inside their own delusions.
The HBO movie goes farther back, offering up a dramatized take on the two Edies' lives and their complicated relationship. It also got us thinking about some of the many other mother-daughter duos we've seen on screen. Here are some of the best and worst moms and daughters we've seen. -- Rick Porter, Zap2it.com |
