Who Do They Think They Are?

Even after the downgrade, which three times specifically mentioned politicians refusal to consider revenues as a reason for the downgrade, every potential Republican candidate said they would veto any agreement that included revenue. And revenue includes ending special tax breaks for the wealthy and billions in subsidies for oil companies. Even ending tax loopholes while lowering the overall tax rates is considered a "tax increase" by Republicans who don't seem to understand that consumer spending is 70% of our country's economy.
After the 2010 elections, Republicans said their top priority was making President Obama a one term President. As unpatriotic as I thought those statements were, I never expected them to put party politics before country. At a time when jobs should be their top priority, they use our country's finances as a pawn in their political games. At a time when the wealthy own an increasing amount of our country's wealth and the majority of Americans are struggling, Republicans still fight for the wealthy over the majority. With politicians like these using our country's ability to pay it's debts like a hostage, with some suggesting we should default, I can understand the downgrade.
on this S&P downgrade thing, I will have to disagree with you
forget about what it rated on other parties, or what it rated on USA before, I think this downgrade is right, at least it is necessary as a wake up call. The real world, especially the business world, doesn't care whatever Obama or the liberal media said, they only look at hard data.
If America continues on this trend, even an AA+ is overated, should be even lower. With the ever increasing spending now, it is simply impossible to sustain, just the interest alone would be enough to kill us (what, you think borrowing money is free? try borrow money from a bank, and see if they can do it for free). It is plain math.
I personally think that people who mad at this downgrade is because either they want to save face, or they are in denial, simply refuse to see the reality, still think this country is "too big to fail". Like what the FDR charactor said in the pearl harbor movie, "We've been trained to think we're invincible"

first of all, I would like to say to whoever made the decision of not letting people comment in your blog for a while(probably the manager, not the webmaster), borrowing two line from the movie "the social network": Are you a moron? Are you medically stupid? Not letting people response to larry's blog? then what's the blog for?? It is like giving your kid a car without the key...
anyway, Larry, in case you don't realize, I STILL watch your commentery, as I like most of it, and it is the ONLY thing that makes me go back to wpix news because of the stupid format
