Theft Victim Turns Out To Be Robbery Suspect
WESTBURY, N.Y. (WPIX) - A woman who made a false report about being robbed turned out to be a suspect in several crimes, according to Nassau County police.

Police say the woman had left her purse behind in an office she had just burglarized. She later misled authorities claiming she was robbed in order to explain why her purse - containing drugs - was at the crime scene, police said.

Rochelle Ramos, 43, filed a report at the Third Precinct in Westbury saying she was standing outside the apartment building located at 320 Post Avenue when a man swiped the purse, then ran into the building, taking an elevator to the basement, police said.

After an investigation into her claims, Third Squad detectives discovered she was lying, police said.

"The suspect had lied about being robbed and in fact had committed a burglary in a basement office at 320 Post Ave. Ramos then fabricated the robbery story to cover for the fact that she had inadvertently left her pocketbook in the office she had just burglarized," a police report said.

After her arrest the police looked in the purse and found two clear plastic bags, one containing what appeared to be crack cocaine, and the other marijuana.

Ramos was charged with making a false written statement, burglary and drug possession. She was arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
