WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WPIX)—
According to New Jersey State Police, Paul Davidson, 32, of Sewell was on a canoe trip Saturday with two friends in the Batsto Village section of Wharton State Park when tragedy struck.
Investigators say the canoeists stopped for a swim in the waters off Washington Township shortly before 7 p.m. Davidson's buddies called police when he failed to resurface.
Police divers found his body around 11 p.m., some 50-yards from where he was last spotted. The medical examiner has yet to determine the official cause of death, but it's believed Davidson drowned.
