    • We saw the coyote twice tonight in Central Park, near the south west entrance. Does not bother anyone.

CHELSEA, N.Y. (WPIX) - A coyote continued to give police and animal officials the slip after it vanished early Wednesday morning following an aggressive pursuit by authorities.

PIX News was on the scene when officials managed to corner the coyote in the vicinity of West 24th Street and 12th Avenue at around 3:30 a.m.

The furry North American mammal managed to escape. It was last seen heading Uptown near the West Side Highway and 57th Street.

Urban coyote sightings are becoming not that unusual on the mean streets of the Big Apple in recent weeks.

At least two coyotes were recently spotted on Columbia University's campus last month, prompting concern with many students and residents in the area.

The animals were spotted walking behind the Schapiro Center for Engineering and Physical Science Research on Feb. 7, but they have not been spotted since.

It wasn't immediately clear if the animal spotted in Chelsea Wednesday morning was one of the animals terrorizing the Morningside Heights campus last month.
