NEW YORK, N.Y. (WPIX) -
Authorities have arrested a dozen people and seized 33 pounds of heroin worth $30 million in a drug bust in the Bronx. Dealers used fuzzy brown teddy bears to traffic the drugs across the New York and New Jersey area, according to the Drug Enforemcent Administration.
Dealers were caught allegedly stuffing heroin into Build-a-Bear Workshop brand stuffed animals when federal investigators raided a house at 4254 Carpenter Avenue in the Bronx.
Feds raided a total of five different addresses after a four-month investigation, said John Gilbride, the special agent in charge of the DEA's New York office.
Authorities say dealers sold hundreds of thousands of small bags of drugs every week. The drugs were stamped with such brand names as Barack Obama, Swine Flu and Crime 360.
Police say say $150,000 in cash was also seized in the raid.
The Build-a-Bear Workshop brand sells furry toys that are customized to a customer's preferences before being filled with stuffing. The company has hundreds of locations throughout the country.
