Doctor Accused of Inseminating Patient With Own Sperm
A fertility doctor based in Connecticut is accused of using his own sperm - instead of a patient's husband's - to impregnate a woman who ultimately gave birth to twins.

The shocking allegations were made in a 2005 lawsuit launched against Dr. Ben Ramaley from an unidentified couple. The case was sealed after Ramaley agreed to pay a $10,000 fine and promised to stop performing artificial inseminations.

However, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal recently became aware of the lawsuit and is now considering prosecuting Ramaley.

According to court records, after the child was born both parents - one of whom is African American and the other Caucasian - were shocked at the baby's fair complexion.

"In March 2004, DNA testing performed at the suggestion of the twins' pediatrician showed that {the wife} was the mother but that {the husband} was not the biological father," court records state.

Dr. Ramaley claims the whole ordeal was an accident.

Ramaley lost his New York license after admitting to the charges. However, he is still allowed to practice gynecology and obstetrics in Connecticut.
