Fancy Fountain Is Smashed, Trashed In Prospect Park
More than two months after a vehicle demolished a fancy fountain in Prospect Park, the New York City Parks Department has left it laying in pieces, adorned with yellow tape similar to that used a crime scene.

While park goers expressed dismay at the mess to PIX 11 News, Parks Department spokeswoman Vickie Karp explained it this way in a statement:

"The water fountain was damaged by a vehicle accident in May. Parks shut off the water and filed a work order. The job has been assessed -- it involves digging up the underground pipes, poring a new base, and installing a new fountain, and because it happened at the same time plumbers are busy prepping the beaches and pools, comfort stations, and making summer sprinkler repairs so kids can stay cool during the heat, it is not yet fixed."

Despite the explanation, it is still unclear why remnants of the fountain have not been removed.
