CORAM, N.Y. (WPIX) -
Five friends are accused of going on an early morning reign of terror. Their weapons of choice: golf carts.
Police say the men ages 18 to 20 years old broke into the Pine Ridge Golf course, stole golf carts and went on an estimated 60-thousand dollar joy ride, destroying greens, fairways, eight golf carts and scared people out of bed.
"It's annoying when you have tire tracks going across the greens," said golfer Mike David Jr.
Those responsible for what happened, may have gotten away with it, had they not decided to take their foolish escapade a step further to the streets of Coram.
And the calls to 911 started pouring in, it was around 3 in the morning when Loretta O'Reilly woke up heard screeching and skidding outside her home.
"I didn't think it was going to be golf carts," said O'Reilly. "I was a little upset and angry. I didn't know where they came from."
It wasn't hard for police to track the vandals down.
"One of the responding cars turned down Halladay Road where one of them lives and there are three golf carts parked out front and one in the driveway," said Suffolk County Police Detective Sergeant Frank Stewart.
All five are charged with felony criminal mischief and if convicted could get more than a year in jail.
Golfer Michael Amorosa has a better idea.
"I say we beat 'em with a driver," he said.
