Prosecutors charge Syed Rahman attacked 24-year-old Ingrid Rivera with a steel pipe and slashed her throat during the party at Spotlight Live.
NEW YORK (WPIX) -
An employee at a Times Square karaoke club pleaded guilty Tuesday to beating a patron to death on the roof of the venue while a birthday celebration for rapper Lil' Kim was underway.
Prosecutors charge Syed Rahman attacked 24-year-old Ingrid Rivera with a steel pipe and slashed her throat during the party at Spotlight Live.
According to police, when Rivera got tossed out of the club for being too drunk, Rahman lured her up to the roof and then "savagely and viciously" her with a steal pipe after she turned down his advances. He then reportedly whipped out a knife and cut her across the neck.
Authorities later uncovered Rivera's body in a pool of blood inside a rooftop utility room two days later.
Rivera paid to attend the August 2008 bash for Lil' Kim. It wasn't clear whether the rapper was at the club during the time of the murder.
Rahman's lawyer said his client expressed remorse and wanted to spare the victim's family the experience of a trial.
Rahman is set to go before a judge on March 16. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
