New Jersey residents were evacuated from their homes in Fairfield, New Jersey, Monday evening and Tuesday morning due to rising flood waters.

The evacuation was a joint effort by the Fairfield Police Department, the Essex County Sheriff's Office and the County Office of Emergency Management.

Fairfield is not the only area in New Jersey that is under water – there is extensive flooding in parts of Somerset County, Bound Brook and Bridgewater Tuesday morning. As of Tuesday morning the Passaic, Rockaway, Pequannock, Pompton, and Wanaque rivers were still rising, with only the Ramapo beginning to recede.

All rivers are expected to crest in the morning and early afternoon, however with the exception of Little falls where the Passaic River is not expected to crest until 2 p.m.
