18-year-old Karleaf Patton was arrested Wednesday at around 6 p.m. at the corner of South Orange Avenue and S. 20th Street in Newark. Authorities determined Patton was the passenger of the SUV that slammed into Heather Clemen's Dodge Neon near Dayton and Foster streets on Tuesday. The impact killed the mother of two.

Authorities are still on the hunt for the driver of the SUV, believed to be 19-year-old Kirtrell Gadson of Irvington.

The incident apparently began when Elizabeth police were investigating a suspected car theft committed by three males on Concord Place in Elizabeth early Tuesday morning. Cops were able to arrest a 15-year-old suspect on the scene.

Gadson and Patton managed to get away, hopping into a stolen Mercury Mountaineer and sped away northbound on Dayton Street, said police. The suspects' vehicle then slammed into Clemen's car near Weequahic Park in Newark. The two males were then spotted running from the vehicle after the crash.

Patton is being held in the Essex County Jail on $500,000 bail and has been charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary, receiving stolen property and felony murder.

The SUV's driver, Gardson, remains at large.
