VINELAND, N.J. (WPIX) -
A pit bull is recovering Monday after police say it was apparently tied to the bumper of a pickup truck and dragged along a South Jersey neighborhood.
A witness called 911 Saturday night, after seeing the animal being dragged behind a pick up truck. The vehicle was described as a dark green pick-up truck.
The truck was reportedly traveling east on Elmer Road, turning left onto East Avenue, in Vineland.
When officers arrived to the scene, no traces of the dog or truck were found.
On Sunday morning, a homeowner on East Avenue called police after finding the badly bruised pit bull on his porch. The dog had apparently crawled onto the porch seeking protection.
Vineland Animal Control was dispatched to retrieve the dog and immediately transported the animal to a veterinarian.
The dog is described as a chocolate, female pit bull, that's approximately a year old.
Officials with the CCSPCA said she suffered road abrasions to her right side and injuries to her face. The pads and nails on her front paws were severely injured, some partially removed. The dog, fortunately, is expected to survive.
The Cumberland County SPCA is seeking help in finding the driver of the pickup truck, who is thought to be a male, and who may or may not have known that the dog was tied to the bumper.
Anyone with information about the incident, is advised to call the Cumberland County SPCA at 691-1500 or the Vineland Police Department at 794-4000.
