An officer is recovering after being shot by his parolee inside an the New York State Division of Parole Offices at 333 Schermerhorn Street, near Nevins Street Thursday evening, police said.

The suspect, identified as ex-convict Robert Morales, 50, of Brooklyn, was arrested at the scene.

New York State parole officer Samuel Salters, 50, was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a bullet wound to the right shoulder, police said. He is listed in stable condition.

Salters is Morales' parole officer.

Detectives were on the scene late Thursday investigating the shooting. They recovered a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun.

Details surrounding the incident were not immediately known.

Morales has been charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
