NEW YORK (WPIX)—
City Council members are up in arms over this years choice for the Puerto Rican Day Parade's Godfather and are threatening to boycott the parade altogether.

Committee members chose singer and soap opera star Osvaldo Rios. However, not everyone is keen on the pick --- considering Rios' past run-ins with the law.

Court records indicate Rios served a three-year prison term six years ago for abusing his girlfriend, ultimately leading council members to believe he is a bad role model for the community.

Some critics says if he shows up a the parade it's condoning the abuse of abuse of women and portrays the issue as less serious.

However, some people say everyone should be given a second shot.

Nearly 2 million people come for the parade which will be held on June 13 this year..
