ARLINGTON, TX ( WPIX) -- A Texas Rangers fan sporting a "Yankees Suck" t-shirt, claims she was almost ejected from Tuesday's game against the Bronx Bombers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.
Kristen Knapp-Webb, of Carrollton, said a security guard approached her and demanded that she turn her t-shirt inside out, or face being kicked out of the game altogether. She says the guard told her that the Texas Rangers organization considered the shirt to be inappropriate because of the profanity.
A team spokesman said the Rangers implemented a code of conduct several years ago after people began filing complaints about offensive shirts.
"That particular phrase is one we've received a lot of complaints about," said Rangers spokesman John Blake. "That kind of thing is offensive to a lot of people, especially if you have young children and that kind of thing."
Under the Rangers' Code of Conduct, "any person wearing clothing with languageÂ… that may be offensive to another guest may be denied entry into the stadium, or ejected from the stadium without refund."
Knapp-Webb and her husband had gone to the game Tuesday to celebreate their 19th wedding anniversary. He wore a Texas Rangers jersey and she wore the "Yankees Suck" shirt, which her husband had given her as an anniversary gift.
She said no one around her seemed to find the shirt offensive.
"It's the things fans do to each other to razz them, to make them laugh (and) have a good time," Knapp-Webb told a local television station.
As a form of compromise, Knapp-Webb said she turned her shirt inside out, but said she and her husband left a short time later before the game started.
"I think 'profanity' needs a definition, and I don't think 'sucks' is included,"said Knapp-Webb.
T-shirt or not, the Rangers managed to defeat the Yankees in a 7-3 win.
