It will be a champions welcome as New York City will host a ticker-tape parade Friday morning to celebrate the Yankees' 27th World Series title.The victory parade will start at 11 a.m. on lower Broadway at Battery Park, go up the Canyon of Heroes to Chambers Street, and end with a rally at City Hall Plaza.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Thursday that the city will hold a public ticket giveaway to attend the ceremony through 311, nyc.gov and Twitter. For more information, click here.
"Congratulations to the Yankees for bringing the world championship back home to New York City, where it belongs," said Bloomberg, who will present each Bronx Bomber with their own Key to the City during the victory ceremony.
The sidewalks lining along the parade route are open to the public, but only limited numbers of tickets for the ceremony will be released.
City officials said the parade will cost around $331,000, but $24,000 will be paid by private donors.
The Yankees beat defending World Series champions the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 of the championship Wednesday evening.
It will be the first ticker-tape parade in New York City since February 2008, when the Giants won the Super Bowl.
The Yankees' last ticker-tape parade was in 2000 when they won their 26th World Series title against the New York Mets in Game 5.
