The NYC Marathon takes place this Sunday, November 6th and it attracts more than 100,000 runners each year. Crossing the finish line is one thing but being fully prepared is far more important.
Podiatrist of Orangetown Podiatry, Dr. Robert Conenello was here with some tips, from what to avoid to wearing the right footwear. We also learned how to properly warm up before the big race with Dr. Conenello and PIX11 reporter Stephanie Tsoflias, who is taking part in the race this Sunday.
1) Avoid the terrible "too's"
-don't do too much, too soon, too often, too fast, too hard, with too little rest
2) Wear the proper running shoe for you!
-proper fit
-sized by a pro
-right shoe for body type, ability, mileage and foot type
-do you need added midfoot support..ie-Sole Angel, OTC inset, orthotic device
3) Increase training slowly
-increase time, or mileage by only 10% max/week
