NEW YORK (WPIX) -- Staten Island Chuck may want to hire extra security.  Mayor Michael Bloomberg vowed on his radio show Friday morning to get even with the well-known furball after the pair's Ground Hog's day scuffle which involved the rodent taking a bite out of hizzoner's gloved finger.

"I'm gonna get the little SOB next year," Bloomberg said.  "I'm gonna bite him in front of the cameras."

The now infamous incident took place on Feb. 2 at the Staten Island Zoo.  Hundreds of onlookers watched as the mayor tired to coax Chuck out of his den with a few of  his favorite snacks, but it seems Chuck, highly annoyed by the mayor's antics, had an idea of his own.

Seconds after emerging from his little village, Chuck tried to get away from Bloomberg's grasp. After realizing the mayor wasn't letting up, the rodent decided to sink his teeth into Bloomy's finger, drawing royal blood.

Chuck attempted to clear the air last week by sending the mayor a big heart-shaped box filled with chocolates on Valentine's Day, which also happened to be Bloomberg's birthday. It seems, however, the mayor may still be a little bitter over the attack.  He said the nibble left some scars, but fortunately his finger will "probably survive."

Mayor Bloomberg's approval rating is also taking a major bite in the polls.  A Marist Poll released today finds his job approval rating had dropped 7% - a four year low.

Last November, 59% of voters thought the mayor was doing an above-average job.  In October 2008, 68% of people thought he was performing well in office.

In addition, the poll finds that 49% of city residents think the city is headed in the wrong direction, compared to 37% who think the city is on the right track.

Bloomberg's popularity has been dropping dramatically since his push to change the city's term limit laws last fall.  40% of city voters think Bloomberg should be re-elected, while 55% say they think the Big Apple is ready for change.
