Nassau County police have launched an investigation into the discovery of a body that was found inside a burning car behind a Long Island synagogue.on Friday.

Freeport police were reportedly called to the scene around 7 p.m. and found a vehicle on fire behind the B'nai Israel synagogue at 91 N. Bayview Ave.

According to officials, after the flames were extinguished a body was found inside the car. The body, whose identification and gender have not been determined, was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. and taken to the Nassau County medical examiner's office.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
