Cops are seeking seeking public assistance in locating a man who impersonated a police officer while committing larceny at a clothing store and six pharmacies over the past nine months.Police say Bension Mamedov, 36, wore a police shield around his neck and an NYPD jacket during all seven acts of larceny.
Mamedov entered each location, removed items from store shelves and brings them to the cashier. He then identifies himself as a police officer and asks to return the items as if he had previously purchased them. Mamedov did not display or threaten to have a weapon.
Mamedov's spree began on October 5, 2009 when he entered a Kings Pharmacy, located at 1619 Third Avenue in Manhattan. Days later, on October 16, 2009 he struck a Duane Reade located at 180 West 20th Street. Ten days later on October 26, 2009, Memdov hit up a Banana Republic located at 1110 Third Avenue.
Mamedov apparently took a five month hiatus and stuck again, targeting three CVS Pharmacies, located at 4065 Amboy Road on April 20; 2151 86th Street on May 8 and 118-10 Queens Blvd. On May 22.
His latest target was a Duane Reade located at 2145 Hylan Blvd on June 16.
