"No, no I'm not going to resign," East Haven Mayor Joe Maturo told PIX11 News Thursday.

The Mayor placed his foot squarely in his mouth Wednesday when he declared to PIX11 reporter Mario Diaz that he 'might have tacos' as a way of reaching out to the Latinos after news of an FBI investigation into alleged systematic police abuse of Latinos in the community.

Now many are calling for the mayor to step down, but Maturo, after a campaign of apologies, is refusing. "I have a job to do, and I'm going to do it," he said.

Less than 48 hours removed from the infamous, "I might have tacos" comment, PIX 11 has learned from a high-ranking official with intimate knowledge of the investigation that individuals interviewed by the Feds have been asking about business relationships between the Chief Leonard Gallo and Mayor Maturo during his first term as mayor.

Maturo denied that he was being investigated by the FBI, saying, "If there was, I would tell you."

Throughout East Haven it is well known that Maturo and Police Chief Leonard Gallo are close friends. In a report by the New York Times, the indictment identifies Gallo as Co-Conspirator #1, and paints him as a tough-talk police chief who has actively worked to suppress any investigation of his officers. He reportedly tried to have a priest removed from an East Haven parish for protesting police treatment of local Latinos.

The indictment also reveals how Mayor Maturo helped reinvent Gallo's flagging career by appointing him to the position.

The newly elected Maturo reinstated Gallo as Chief shortly after his election. Gallo had been placed on administrative leave by the precious Mayor during the investigation by the Federal authorities A Federal investigation that Maturo is adamant that he is not a part of the investigation, saying, "I was straight with you the other day, and I'm straight with you right now."

News of Maturo's insensitive taco remark attracted the wrath of groups across the nation, including Reform Immigration for America, the group that pledged to send a taco to the mayor whenever someone texted TACO to 69866.

On it's website the group wrote, "Thanks to your texts, tweets, and shares, more than 3,500 people have texted to deliver a taco to East Haven Mayor Maturo, following his insensitive comment about accusations of racial discrimination against the Latino community. We just delivered 500 tacos to the mayor's office as a visual of all those across the country who are outraged by his careless remarks."
