It may not have been a huge snowfall on Saturday, the first of 2012 -- under six inches in most places -- but, that snowstorm may be creating extremely treacherous driving conditions for the Monday morning commute.

There's a freezing rain advisory in effect, so be on the lookout for black ice and difficult driving conditions.

"Right now, it is just slush, said Matthew Murphy, a New York City Department of Sanitation worker, adding "but as the night goes on and temperatures start to drop, once this starts to freeze, this is going to be dangerous. That's why we are spreading calcium chloride right now."

Salt spreaders were out in force Sunday night across New Jersey, Westchester and New York City, trying to get ahead of the freezing rain conditions before Monday morning's commute.

Advice to drivers?

"When you see slush, be very careful because it could be frozen tomorrow morning so drive safe[sic]," the sanitation worker advised.
