RIVER EDGE, N.J. (WPIX) - A garbage truck took down power lines when it slammed into a pole in River Edge, New Jersey Monday morning.

The accident occurred at 33 Lincoln Avenue near Kinderkamack Road at about 6:30 a.m.

Reports say the Waste Management truck stopped short of crashing into a house at the location and instead took down trees and a pole attached to power lines.

The garbage truck driver was able to exit the vehicle, but unconfirmed reports say he soon went into cardiac arrest.

Unconfirmed reports also say he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in extremely critical condition.

A combination of the crash and a possible pre-existing medical condition may have caused his condition.
