NEW YORK (WPIX)—
A historic church in New York City was damaged Wednesday night during a three-alarm fire.Officials say the blaze was reported around 11:30 p.m. and started out in the organ loft of the Baptist Temple Church, located on Schermerhorn Street and Third Avenue in the Boerum section of Brooklyn.
The flames were finally brought under control around 1:30 a.m. According to reports, the church's pastor said people attending a Bible study were inside when the fire broke out. Officials say they were not injured, however four firefighters suffered minor injuries.
The church was built in the 1890s and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 for its architectural and engineering significance.
So far, there is no word on what sparked the fire.
