JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WPIX) -
An electrical fire in Jersey City led to the discovery of a woman's body in an apartment building.
Authorities say the victim -- who was in her 60s -- died of natural causes, before the fire started. Flames broke out around 1:45 a.m. Saturday on the first floor of the four-story building, then spread to other floors.
Meanwhile, two dozen families were forced into the cold, and neighbors provided coats and blankets for the victims, most of them clad only in pajamas.
Firefighters rescued people clinging to fire escapes, and other struggling down the main stairway. One resident desperately jumped from a second-story window to escape the smoke and flames.
