ROSLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WPIX)—
Authorities have charged Wilmer Linares, 23, with third-degree murder. Detectives say Linares wanted payback, because the victim reportedly called police, which triggered the arrest and deportation of a woman, who'd reportedly been involved with the victim, before she hooked up with Linares.
This all unfolded Oct. 31 around 11 p.m. at the Gulf Station on Powerhouse Road in Roslyn Heights. That's where cops found Jony Acosta, 26, on the floor, the victim of multiple stab wounds. Acosta was rushed to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he died three days later.
Police say the woman broke into Acosta's home in Alberton and was charged with burglary and criminal mischief. By that time, she'd already hooked up with Linares, according to police. They notified federal immigration officials because she was not in the country legally, and they deported her to Honduras.
