ROSYLN, N.Y. (WPIX)—
Authorities on Long Island pulled a man from a cesspool that he had been stuck in for over four hours.The man, who has not been identified, worked from a Huntington based cesspool company, and had been immersed in dirt up to his chest.
The Roslyn Fire Department was dispatched to the scene on Peacock Drive shortly after a call was placed to 911 around 11:21 a.m.
Officials said the trapped man was in good condition and was coherent following his rescue.
A second man attempting to rescue the first man, also fell into the cesspool but was quickly recovered, police said.
It is unclear what events led to the first man to become trapped.
Firefighters on the scene reportedly said the walls of the cesspool were decaying and were in severe danger of collapsing. A vacuum truck used to pump out cesspools had been requested.
PIX News has learned that a medic was lowered into the pit by a harness, and provided medical assistance to the man. He had been hooked to an IV that's preventing him from becoming dehydrated, fire officials said. His exact injuries remain unknown.
A medevac helicopter and Nassau County police Emergency Services Unit were on the scene as crews determine how to safely rescue the worker.
