Why is the MTA ignoring a broken subway station door that allows anyone off the street unfettered access to Grand Central and Times Square stations?

That's the question PIX 11 News reporter Greg Mocker is trying to answer since he first spotted the broken emergency exit door on July 23 - and reported it to the MTA, police, and the city. The door - which leads to Grand Central and the Times Square shuttle - does not lock or have a working alarm.

When Mocker first reported the door to officials with 311 and 1-888-NYC-SAFE (the "See Something, Say Something" hotline), he was referred to MTA Customer Service where a representative said the door would be fixed. But it wasn't.

On four separate occasions over the course of 11 days, Mocker continued to report the security risk, notifying station agents and an MTA manager who actually examined the door. But still, nothing happened.

On Monday afternoon, after Mocker alerted the MTA press office to the situation, a representative emailed this note: "The emergency exit you noticed is not functioning as intended. New York City Transit will fix it promptly. Thank you for bringing this to our attention."

Mocker will check the door on Tuesday.
