The MTA's first round of service cuts started Monday and is expected to save the transit agency nearly $5 million a year.

Several Metro-North trains are being eliminated -- including a total of 13 east-of-Hudson trips. Two west-of-Hudson trains will also be eliminated.

In addition, the transit agency is preparing additional service changes for both the fall and winter -- including cuts to rush-hour service on widely-used buses and subways.

The proposed changes, which must be approved on Wednesday, would reduce service on dozens of bus routes and increase commuting time for riders on the 7 line.

Starting in December, the MTA is slated to remove four early-morning express trains from the 7 line, which runs between Queens and Midtown Manhattan. Express service would start at 6:20 a.m. instead of 5:30 a.m.
