NEW YORK (WPIX)—
As the MTA slashes bus and subway service, lays off employees, and tells New Yorkers to brace for fare hikes, the authority is poised to spend more than $1 million to hire 11 managers and executives.PIX 11 News reporter Greg Mocker discovered the hiring spree in a review of current job postings on the MTAÂ’s website.
The available positions (with top salaries) include: Project Manager ($127,800), Assistant Superintendent of Building Maintenance ($97,179), Associate Counsel ($109,390), Senior Systems Analyst ($85,840), Senior Compensation Analyst ($73,301), Deputy Controller-Revenue ($135,605), and Section Manager-Station Accounts ($97,179).
In total, the MTA is willing to pay $1,111,417 in salaries for 11 positions. It is not clear how much more the authority would spend on benefits.
Mocker compiled the job postings in a report titled “How to Save $1 Million (Tomorrow)” that he delivered Monday to MTA headquarters, leaving copies for the MTA’s new cost-cutting czar, Diana Jones Ritter, and MTA Chairman Jay Walder.
He was almost prevented from delivering his report when someone inside MTA headquarters called the police on Mocker. Two NYPD officers responded, but took no action.
