NEWARK, NJ (PIX11)—
A vicious group of kids caught on tape beating a fellow 15-year-old student on the streets of Newark quickly got attention from the community and police.Tonight, Newark Police say they have two teens in custody, 15 and 17, who are both connected to the crime.
The attack happened outside a bodega near Bloomfield and 4th avenue. It was all captured by surveillance cameras.
"They beat up one kid on the corner and then another kid down by the barber shop," said Ricardo Grau who witness the attack.
He says the kids were all walking home from school at Barringer High School and believes he saw close to 20 kids taking swings at the victim.
"They were just kicking him kicking stomping hitting laughing not saying nothing," said Grau.
Newark School board member Marques Lewis believes they were all classmates and it might have been a personal attack, saying the city won't tolerate it.
"We have to educate our children let them know this isn't funny."
Mayor Cory Booker released a statement saying, "The City of Newark and it's residents will not tolerate school bullying and we need the entire community to work together ... to fins ways to educate our youth about non-violent behavior."
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
