A New York man is in police custody Friday after a raid at his Cortlandt home turned up over a dozen rifles, several rounds of ammunition and eight improvised explosive devices among other illegal material, officials said.

According to detectives, Gary R. Burstell Sr., 52, was arrested at the scene and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Officers with the Westchester County bomb squad reportedly removed two garbage bags of material from the residence located at 55 Lockwood Road Friday afternoon, following the bust. Officials said the sting was part of an ongoing investigation.

Investigators seized numerous items at the residence including 14 rifles, approximately 1,000 rounds of ammunition, commercial fireworks and eight I.E.D.'s.

The man's son, Gary Burstell Jr. was also detained at the scene, but was subsequently released, officials said.

Gary Burstell Sr. is expected to be arraigned at Yonkers City Court Friday afternoon.
