A devastating house fire has claimed the lives of three children in Huguenot, New York, fire officials confirmed Monday.

The victims were said to be 11, 12 and 15 years old. Their names have not been released.

PIX News has learned that two of the victims were sisters, while the third was their friend. The girls were reportedly having a sleep over because school was not in session Monday.

According to officials, the fire broke out some time after 8 a.m. Monday in the two-story located located at 106 Peenpack Trail. Two people, confirmed to be the mother and older sister of two of the victims, managed to escape from a 1st floor apartment, state police said.

The mother worked as a teacher at Port Jervis High School, the school officials said..

"The district community is mourning the loss of three of our students," the school district said in a statement, posted on its website. "Out of respect for the families, we will not release any information at this time, but send our deepest sympathy to all of those who are hurting from this terrible loss."

The fire is still under investigation.
