Paul McCartney may play Citi Field

Report says former Beatle may be first to play Mets' new ballpark Citi Field in July

You can still hear the screams of girls young and old from that historic August 15, 1965 first ever concert at Shea Stadium. The Beatles rocked New York 44 years ago and now a web site is boasting that former Beatle Paul McCartney will be the first to perform a concert at the brand new home of the New York Mets, Citi Field.

Ticketnews.com says reliable touring industry executives have indicated that Sir Paul's only confirmed concert right now is on July 11 at the Halifax Commons in Halifax, NS. The New York Mets play their last game before the All-Star break July 12 and do not return to Citi Field until July 27.

The sources say that McCartney's Flushing performance, possibly July 17-18 with a third show July 21, will be promoted by AEG Live and that an official announcement could come in a few weeks.

Billy Joel was the last to play at Shea Stadium, but McCartney did make a guest star appearance. In addition to the Beatles playing at Shea Stadium, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, The Who, The Police, Elton John, Eric Clapton and Simon & Garfunkel also brought music fans to Big Shea.
