BROOKLYN (PIX11)—
The bizarre lawsuit involving a former Playboy Playmate, a cab driver and the NYPD came to an end. After more than 8 hours of deliberations, a jury awarded Miss November 1992, Stephanie Adams, $1.2 million, agreeing with her claims that the NYPD had used unnecessary force during an incident back in May 2006.Adams claims she and a cab driver, Eric Darko, argued over where she wanted to be dropped off. Both called police, but when officers arrived Adams says she was roughed up.
"They yanked my hair. They shoved me to the ground and I closed my eyes and started crying," said Adams during a press conference held today.
NYPD Sergeant John Rajan, was one of five officers who responded that night and said during testimony, he believed Adams had a gun because that's what Darko told 911 operators. Darko has since lost his license to operate a taxi. Adams said she has suffered from constant neck and back pain ever since that day and now she and her attorney, Sanford Rubenstein, want legislators to step in and help fight against the use of excessive force by law enforcement.
"The excessive use of force was unnecessary and something that New Yorkers have become all too accustomed to and it must stop," said Rubenstein.
"I waited 6 years for justice and I just pray and hope other people who are victims will speak out as well and something will be done about excessive force and police brutality," added Adams.
The city now has 45 days to appeal.
