According to exit polls, Democratic U.S. Senator Charles Schumer will keep his senate seat for a third term after defeating first-time candidate Jay Townsend, a political consultant.Schumer was the clear favorite to win, and some are predicting that he will take the place of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid if the senator loses his re-election bid in Nevada. Schumer is currently the No. 3 Senate Democrat.
Schumer has given generously from his political bank account to other Democrats in closer races. Schumer saw his funds grow to $23.2 million as of August this year.
