Cops in Cliffside Park are hunting for a sexual predator accused of breaking into a home and sexually assaulting two people that neighbors describe as elementary school-aged girls.

Louann Mossien told PIX 11 News, "It's shocking and scary but nothing compared to what those people went through."

At dusk Thursday night Cliffside Park cops could be seen fanning out, going door to door in the neighborhood passing out press releases containing information on the crime and safety tips.

In a joint release, Cliffside Park police and the Bergen County Prosecutor say a homeowner on Washington Avenue called 911 at about 6am Wednesday to report a man in the house. According to prosecutors, the homeowner chased the man out but not before he had committed sexual the assaults.

"I heard the screams that were beyond belief. We ran to see what was going on and at the same time a car was honking its horn.'

Cops say when the owner chased the guy out she screamed to the guy in the car who was trying to stop the creep and that the driver ended up chasing him through the neighborhood.

But cops say he lost the guy when he ran into a back yard. There have been a number of burglaries in North Bergen recently and police are also investigating attempted burglaries down the street from this one and on Lincoln Avenue immediately prior to this invasion.

"I think its a tragedy that something like that happened in the neighborhood ," said retiree Eugene Doczy who added it does frighten him. Resident John Cukar told PIX 11 "6am is unusual for something like that to happen so the neighbors are concerned."

Cops describe the suspect as a light skinned male, approximately 5'7" to 5'10", thin build, and with possibly brown or dark hair. He was wearing blue Jeans and a dark hoodie at the time.

Police are asking that anyone with information to contact the Cliffside Park Police Department at (201) 945-3600 or the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office at (201) 226-5620.
