ELMSFORD, N.Y. (WPIX) -- A Pelham social studies teacher was on suicide watch Monday night after being arrested in an internet sex sting, police said.
According to authorities, seventh grade teacher Gregg Cavaluzzi arranged a meeting with a girl he thought was 15-years-old, but was arrested when that "girl" turned out to be a detective with the Westchester County Police Internet Crimes Squad.
Officers arrested Cavaluzzi, 34, at 4:40 a.m. Sunday shortly after he arrived to the Elmsford address the two agreed to meet. Prosecutors say a condom was found In Cavaluzzi's vehicle.
The Yorktown man was charged with enticement of a minor for sex.
Detectives say Cavaluzzi sent sexually explicit messages and photos to the undercover detective he connected with in an online chat room called FamilyLove.
The seventh grade teacher started having contact with detectives believed to be young girls, as far back as January 2008, the criminal complaint states.
Cavaluzzi previously coached lacrosse in Pleasantville and Ridgefield, Ct. He also worked in the school system in New York City.
Cavaluzzi's lawyer insists that his client suffers from depression and cocaine addiction. Pelham Superintendent Dennis Lauro said police found no students at risk.
Lauro confirmed that Cavaluzzi has been suspended without pay. Cavaluzzi apparently had submitted his resignation that would have been effective at the end of the school year, Lauro said.
