Suspect In Standoff Shoots, Kills Self Inside Sheriff's Office
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (WPIX) - A standoff involving an armed man who barricaded himself in the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office ended when he turned the gun on himself, PIX News has learned.

Although authorities did not release the name of the suspect, The Poughkeepsie Journal News identifies the man as Ken-Tweal Catts.

Catts, 30, was reportedly brought to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office for questioning in an alleged sexual case, police said. After the interview wrapped, a struggle unraveled between Catts and two detectives.

"While being prepared for arraignment, the suspect attempted to escape and struggled with a detective, gaining control of the detective's weapon," Sheriff Butch Anderson said in a statement.

Catts fired the gun and injured one of the detectives, Anderson said. The suspect then barricaded himself inside an office, where he shot himself three-hours later.

The unidentified detective was treated at a nearby hospital, and released Wednesday night.

City police along with the Dutchess County Sheriff's hostage negotiation team were on the scene to assist with the situation.

The city of Poughkeepsie is located nearly 70 miles north of New York City.
