NEW YORK (WPIX)—
I spoke to a reputable broker recently, and he told me that New York City brokers, rental offices, even co-op boards are monitoring your Facebook pages and Twitter updates. It's a story that brickunderground.com broke, but I pursued! And the surprising truth is you don't have to be a private eye to find out that someone would be a bad tenant!Your profile on Facebook, you daily tweets, and even what your friends say about you on the web could affect how a coop board or a landlord sees you. So what do you do?
Experts say make sure to set the privacy setting on your Facebook ( I haven't done this). But I keep everything I say professional. Assume everyone is watching!
Google yourself and see what comes up. And guess what, even what your kids tweet or put on their Facebook could affect your chances of getting your dream home.
Find me on Facebook or leave your comments here on our message board with your horror Facebook or Twitter stories. It's difficult to know for sure if you were rejected just because of misbehavior on the web. But we are listening.
We will do a follow up on the best stories!
