EAST VILLAGE (WPIX)—
Thursday is a commuter gridlock nightmare with both President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden coming to town.President Obama will make his financial overhaul speech today at Cooper Union on 7th Street between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue around noon. The President will arrive in New York around 11am. He will take a helicopter to Lower Manhattan, then motorcade up the FDR Drive to the Houston Street exit then make his way to Cooper Union.
The FDR Drive will be frozen in both directions from 23rd Street to South Ferry, so please avoid Alphabet City and the East Village. Drivers stick with the West Side Highway until after 1 p.m. as an alternate. During the President's visit expect delays or diversions on the M1, M2, M3, M8, M9, M14A, M14D, M15, M101, M102 and M103 buses.
Then, Vice President Biden will appear on The View causing his own traffic gridlock on the West Side of Manhattan.
The Vice President will fly into LaGuardia Airport around 9:30 a.m. His motorcade will take the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, then the F.D.R. Drive to ABC Studios. Drivers can expect delays on West 66th Street at West End Avenue. Drivers can expect delays or closures on Amsterdam Ave, Grand Central Parkway, and RFK Bridge. Straphangers can also expect possible delays or diversions on the M11, M57 and M66 buses.
