OSSINING, N.Y. (WPIX)—
A Westchester man was arrested and charged Saturday, after police said he drove drunk while he had his 7-month old son in the backseat.According to Village of Ossining authorities, Paul Amay, 24, registered a blood-alcohol level of three times the legal limit when officers pulled him over.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Croton and Clinton avenues, police said. Amay was pulled over in his red Neon shortly before noon after a driver called authorities to report a vehicle traveling erratically.
Officers discovered the 7-month-old child, unharmed, in the back seat of the vehicle.
In addition, Ossining village Detective Lt. William Sullivan said the car had a punctured tire.
The DWI charge could be upgraded to a felony when the Westchester County District Attorney's Office reviews the case.
Gov. David Paterson signed the Child Passenger Protection Act, known as Leandra's law, which will make it a felony for people to drive while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs with children under age 15 in the car.
Amay is being held at the Westchester County jail in Valhalla and is due in Village Court Tuesday.
