9. Celebrity birthday shoutout

Randall "Tex" Cobb, who holds two cultural distinctions for those who remember the 1980s, turns 62 today. He started out as a heavyweight boxer with a granite chin. In 1982 he took on world champ Larry Holmes and took the strategy of letting Holmes hit him repeatedly while hoping to land a lucky shot. Cobb lasted 15 rounds and got beaten to a pulp, prompting legendary broadcaster Howard Cosell to announce that he would never work another boxing match. This show of machismo - "You can beat my brains in, but you can't knock me down" - made Cobb a minor celebrity and launched an acting career highlighted by his performance as Leonard Smalls, The Lone Biker of the Apocalypse, in "Raising Arizona."

  15. Dan Campbell moves past a battered legacy as USA Boxing coach

Many days, Dan Campbell can be found standing, arms folded, in the center of the noisy boxing gym at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
