  9. Milwaukee County looks to eliminate lump-sum payments to retirees

    Milwaukee County officials say the county has paid nearly $200 million dollars in lump-sum backdrop payments to retirees since the program began 10 years ago. Anyone hired by Milwaukee county since 2005 aren't eligible for the backdrop payments. However, in May alone, 79 retirees got more than $14 million in one time payments in addition to their pensions. One even got a million dollars when he left the county. Now a large firm says the county can stop this from happening.
